WELCOME TO THE SIDETRACKED MOM

So happy you're here!

I'm Anna Anderson.  I created this site for moms like me working to manage their ADHD symptoms and those of their antsy-pants children.

I struggled with ADHD for 30 years before I knew its name.  Concerned about my oldest son's symptoms, I started to investigate ADHD.  I was shocked to learn it didn't just look like hyper little boys, but it also looked like me:  an absent-minded adult who couldn't do the dishes but could paint a whole room in a day without stopping to eat, a mom who couldn't muster enough energy to do laundry but could drive all over looking for the perfect rug, a woman who couldn't remember what her spouse told her ten minutes ago but could tell you more than you've ever wanted to know about dog breeds, car seat brands, or whatever else she last hyperfocused on.

Before my diagnosis, I diligently tried to implement self-management and parenting strategies that continually failed. My diagnosis made me realize that mainstream lifestyle strategies would never work for me because they were created by and for neurotypical people.  I needed ADHD-friendly strategies.  Fortunately, I have found a treasure trove of ADHD resources I cannot wait to share with you.

Parenting is hard, parenting with ADHD is harder, and parenting kids who have ADHD while managing your own symptoms is utterly ridiculous.  Truly, my husband, Eric, and I perform more daring rodeos wrangling our three children every day than our small Wyoming community has performed all year.

Living with ADHD is hard, but you don't have to do it alone.

Yours truly,

Anna

P.S. The Sidetracked Mom design pokes fun at the 1950's idea of the "perfect housewife" because nobody breaks the 50's mom stereotypes quite as magnificently as moms with ADHD.  Perfect moms?  Who needs them?!  It's the sidetracked ones that really make the world go round.
